Waterstock
Oxfordshire
A stone manor and its threshing barn, restored and drawn together around a new garden court.
View projectDesign & build · Est. 2009
An architect-led design-and-build studio for private homes across London and the Home Counties.
The philosophy
We take on six commissions a year. No more. Each is held by one architect and one site lead, from the first measured drawing to the day the keys change hands.

The studio
AVERLY was founded in 2009 in a former joinery workshop in Clerkenwell. We are architects who build, and builders who draw. The same small team that sketches your house also stands behind its structure, its joinery and its finish.
Heritage sensibility, modern construction. No sales patter, no churn. Just a handful of houses a year, built properly.
Selected work

View project02
Richmond upon Thames
A Georgian townhouse returned to its proper proportions, with a stair hall rebuilt in oak and lime plaster.
View project03
The Chilterns
A new flint and oak house in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, built to disappear into its valley.
View projectMaterials
We specify few materials and know them deeply. Oak from two estates, limestone from one quarry, brass cast to our own patterns.

Oak & walnut
Quarter-sawn, oiled by hand, repaired rather than replaced.

Flint & limestone
Laid in lime mortar, as the local walling tradition asks.

Aged brass
Unlacquered, so the hand of the house records itself.
The measure of a house is an ordinary Tuesday.
